Oxley Flour Mill, Milawa

The Oxley Flour Mill is in Milawa, on the corner of the Snow Road and Woodberrys Lane. It was built in 1861 by William Allen. Allen also operated the (first) flour mill in Wangaratta, which is of course on the Sydney-Melbourne train line, which would have been important. The Oxley Flour Mill is four storeys, and is made with all local bricks; these bricks can be seen everywhere in the houses of the local towns. This building is completely un-renovated and disused. I used to drive past it each week when I’d drive my daughter to work at the Milawa Cheese Factory. It was also the first photograph I ever sold.

He’s also a winner of a St Kilda Film Festival Award (as writer-director) and is a former winner of the prized Best Australian Sports Writing Award.

Mattinson puts a score out of 100 on every wine that he reviews. But what he’d rather do, is tell you the wine’s story.
