For the past 25 years Campbell Mattinson has been helping people find the best wines, for the best reasons. He’s the former chief editor of Halliday Wine Companion and is the founder of Australia’s most active wine review site, The Winefront. In 2022 he published a novel. He’s both a wine critic and a writer, which means that he’s happy to put a score on a wine, and does so with 1000s of wines every year, but he’s even happier when he’s telling its story.

His Mattinson. site started out as an online wine magazine but has slowly broadened into wine travel, spirits and photography. The Mattinson. site remains at heart an outlet for wine stories. This site has existed for 10+ years but 2024 was its watershed; unique visits to this site grew 3194% (amazing but true) year-on-year (up to June 2025). February 2025 saw a new record number of unique visitors to this site. A new record was then set in May 2025, and then again in June 2025. Unique visits to this site are up 747% in the last six months alone (to July 2025).

This site is hand-made, thoughtful, real and free-flowing. The fact unique visitor numbers to this site are booming is heart-warming.

What the above increase in traffic says – especially given the fall of various traditional wine magazines, wine columns and wine information outlets over the past decade – is that there’s a keen appetite for a new wine media outlet. Australia and the world needs another place where wine/food/travel stories can be presented and told, both well and if necessary, at length.
