At the 2026 World Whiskies Awards the Callington Mill’s Amphora swept the Australian single malt honours – it was awarded Category Winner, Australia Single Malt Winner and Gold – making it the best-performing Australian single malt in the field. These achievements come for a distillery that has been collecting international medals for three years running, at the World Whiskies Awards, the World Whisky Masters, San Francisco and the IWSC. What makes the Amphora worth chasing is its quality in the glass, of course, but also for how it's built: it’s matured first in sherry, tokay and brandy casks, then moved into three handmade 350-litre clay amphorae and left to rest for two years – no staves, no char, just clay. There's also a thread here for anyone reading this whole list: Callington Mill was built by John Ibrahim in close collaboration with Bill Lark – the same godfather of Australian whisky who opens tier three below. That is, the pioneer's fingerprints are partly-on one of the country's newest winners.
