Red Knot McLaren Vale GSM 2023 is “pretty damn good” for a $13 red.

“You'd have to say that the value of this 2023 release is pretty damn good.” That was the conclusion to my review of this 2023 Red Knot GSM, from McLaren Vale, on The Winefront.

I bought this wine because the 2022 version won the Best Red Wine in the History of the World Award, or something like that. Kidding of course. But it made the news, courtesy of the fact that it’s a wine that can be bought for under $15 (I paid $13 for this) and it had won some kind of major international award.

I wouldn’t personally be giving this 2023 any major awards, on pure quality terms, but I would say that it offers outstanding value. $13 for a well balanced, expressive, mid-weight, delicious wine to drink is noteworthy. The packaging looks a bit cheap but you could take the wine inside the bottle anywhere.

Reccomended?: Yes, highly.
Paid: $13.
Pros: Bright fruit, dry finish, juicy and delicious.
Cons: Daggy packaging but, as they say in the classics, you can’t drink a label.

He’s the only Australian to have won the Australian Wine Communicator of the Year Award more than once. He’s a past winner of a Louis Roederer International Wine Media Award, and is the author of the award-winning book The Wine Hunter. He’s not afraid to put a score beside a wine. But what he’d rather do, is tell you the wine’s story.
