Allegiance Wines Barossa Unity Shiraz 2021
$120, 15% alcohol, screwcap, Barossa Valley.
There’s intense fruit flavour here but there’s also noticeable alcohol heat and a woody bitterness to the aftertaste. It tastes of saturated plums, vanilla cream, cedarwood and asphalt, with all the flavours sitting at the ultra ripe, slightly dessicated end of the spectrum. There’s a salt-like note here too, salted caramel or even salted nuts perhaps, which teams up with the bitterness but also helps to give the wine some of its kick. You’ve been forewarned. 90 points.
