Briar Ridge Ampelus Argilla Syrah Tempranillo 2024

Mattinson review of Briar Ridge Ampelus Argilla Syrah Tempranillo 2024

Briar Ridge Ampelus Argilla Syrah Tempranillo 2024
$50, 13.5% alcohol, screwcap, Hunter Valley.

This wine leans gently into the ‘syrah’ style, in that it adds spice and peanut notes to the general flow of black cherry and plum-like flavour. It delivers good fruit, but it’s also in touch with its more savoury side, let’s say, and tempranillo helps contribute to both sides of this theme, with cola and twiggy herb characters added to the show. It’s an interesting wine, and a lovely drink. Grainy tannin gives the wine an earthen, textural, toasty aspect. In short, the quality of this wine is up there. 94 points.
