$65, 14.5% alcohol, screwcap, Alpine Valleys.

This red wine is both bold and slender at once. It offers bold, dark, almost inky berried fruit flavours, but then it’s also strung with herb and tobacco-like notes, and it then finishes with a leafy, peppery burst. Characterful, it most certainly is. It’s keen with tannin, as this variety often is, but it feels well crafted and well balanced. You’d expect this wine to improve with a little extra bottle age too. 92 points.
