ROAR Wines Soberanes Vineyard Chardonnay 2023
14.7% alcohol, cork, California.

The alcohol is high here but so too is the power of fruit flavour. I was a bit smitten by the wines off the Soberanes Vineyard, both from ROAR and Pisoni.

Great fruit, great length, genuine character but also a lot of oak. Custard, cedar, cream, yellow peach, pear and citrus. There’s a lot of wine here. We will know its true quality when the oak influence has settled. Love how tight this is. Love the killer chalkiness of the finish. I’m 93+ points because of the oak; if that settles I’m a couple of points higher.

Score: 93+
Production: 138 dozen (only).
