Eight at the Gate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Mattinson review of Eight at the Gate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021.

Eight at the Gate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
$28, 14% alcohol, screwcap, Wrattonbully.

Cabernet is often at its best when it doesn’t try too hard. As grape varieties go it’s one of the more inherently complex, and so just letting the fruit express itself is usually enough to do the trick. This is a handy example. The berry flavours are ripe and red, it feels medium-bodied all around, pine and mint notes add something extra, and toasted spice notes finish it off. It’s just a lovely medium-bodied drink. 91 points.
