This is an interesting merlot. It’s light – as if its flavours are painted in watercolours rather than in oil – and complex with very good flow and a sustained, juicy, characterful finish. It tastes of boysenberry, dust, aromatic herbs and fresh plums, with bay leaf notes helping to add lift. This wine is light, as stated, but it has a substance to its core; once the wine has been a chance to breathe, an element of licorice-and-roses pushes through. It’s an attractive wine. 91 points.
