K'AVSHIRI Red Assemblage 2022

It’s a blend of nine varieties, including air-dried Aladasturi grapes and (mostly) Saperavi, co-fermented with white Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane grapes. 24% was fermented in Qvevri, 10% in oak, the remainder presumably in stainless steel. It’s mostly grown in the Kakheti region but it also sees grass from the Imereti, Samegrelo and Racha regions. The 2023 K’AVSHIRI White Assemblage, tasted on the same day, is worth a look too.

Nine varieties, various grape processing and maturation techniques, input from vintages other than 2022 and an assortment of regions – and the end result is fun, fruity and relatively simple. Berried fruits, ripe and soft, traced with herbs, ready to rip. It’s an easy red wine to drink. 88 points.
