Best's Old Vine Pinot Meunier 2024
$150, 12% alcohol, screwcap, Great Western/Grampians.

There’s an old vineyard at Great Western in the Grampians wine region known as the Millers Burgundy vineyard, and this vineyard was – incredibly – planted in 1868. The vines growing in this vineyard are mostly Pinot Meunier, with a little Pinot Noir. This wine was grown on this vineyard.

There’s a bit more depth through the mid palate than is usual but then the acidity feels cranberried and juicy, which means that it’s a wine both of fruit depth and sweet-sour energy. Floral and sweet spice notes add a certain prettiness, and through it feels both svelte and well balanced. It’s an excellent release, no doubting it, with room to improve in the cellar. 94+ points.
