Best's Old Vine Pinot Meunier 2023
Best's Old Vine Pinot Meunier 2023
$125, 12% alcohol, screwcap, Great Western/Grampians.
There’s an old vineyard at Great Western in the grampians wine region known as the Millers Burgundy vineyard, and this vineyard was – incredibly – planted in 1868. The vines growing in this vineyard are mostly Pinot Meunier, with a little Pinot Noir. This wine was grown on this vineyard. In terms of history and rarity and uniqueness and all those things, they don;’t come any more distinctive or special than Best’s Old Vine Pinot Meunier.
This 2023 release is a lacy wine with flavours and textures flying here and there. It's another beautiful release. It's floral and herbal and strawberried and earthen, its lightness overcome by its complex loveliness. Structure and length are perfectly pitched here. Excellent is the word. This wine is special. 95 points.
