Haselgrove The Protector Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
$40, 14% alcohol, screwcap, McLaren Vale.

This is both a substantial wine and a very good one. It’s buoyant with flavour and structurally too it’s rock solid. It tastes of blackcurrant, boysenberry, cedarweood and vanilla cream, with mint top notes adding extra lift. Tannin here is firm, neat and appropriately proportioned to the volume of (fresh) fruit. What’s particularly impressive here is the length of the finish, which extends beyond the ordinary. 94 points.
