Naturi Rosso Vermouth

Mattinson review of Naturi Rosso Vermouth.

Naturi Rosso Vermouth
$40, 19% alcohol, screwcap, Australia.

Sweet red vermouth is an essential of every liquor cabinet and for me personally is a staple, courtesy of its role in the negroni. Indeed the vermouth aspect is the most crucial contributor to the quality of your standard negroni, simply because it both bodies and balances the drink up as a whole. So good vermouth is not just a great thing; it makes everything better, so to speak, or at least it does for me. Right.

If you really want to elevate a negroni, go out and buy yourself some of this Rosso Vermouth from Naturi. Once you’ve done that, make sure that you pour a shot or two of this vermouth into a glass and just drink it neat, because it’s an absolute marvel just like that; plain, simple and beautiful. If you haven’t already guessed: I’m in love with this vermouth. The full list of flavours and nuances is irrelevant but you basically get beautifully balanced hits of anise, sweet herbs, nutmeg, bitter chocolate, mint and sweet (almost into glacé) cherry aromas and flavours, with various bitter-sweet botanical and Aussie bush notes infused through. The take-home is this: it tastes champion.
