Hunter Island – Tasmanian Pot Still Whisky, Apera Cask Matured
Hunter Island – Tasmanian Pot Still Whisky, Apera Cask Matured
Tasmania.
ABV: 48% (700ml; mash bill 65% malted barley / 30% raw barley / 5% oats, triple distilled, non-chill filtered).
A 2026 World Whiskies Awards category winner, and one of the more distinctive whiskies being made in Tasmania. Where almost everyone else makes single malt, Hunter Island works in the Irish-inspired pot-still tradition – triple distilled, from a mixed mash of malted barley, raw barley and oats – then matures it in apera (Australian sherry-style) casks. It's a genuine point of difference on a list dominated by single malt, and proof that there’s more than one way of making top-grade Australian whisky.
