Shy Susan Gruner Veltliner 2024
$40, 13%, screwcap, Alpine Valleys

This was matured in old, neutral puncheons and has taken on some grip, texture and softness as a result. In any case it’s a wine with ample flavour and the mouthfeel to go with it. It smells and tastes of white pepper, aromatic herbs, apple, nectarine and preserved citrus. The slatey, stone-like quality of the finish is of particular note; it gives the wine both emphasis and a nod to savouriness. There’s also a tautness to this wine. It’s terrific. 95 points.
