Bekkers Cabernet Sauvignon 2024
$120, 13.5% alcohol, screwcap, McLaren Vale.

This wine was grown exclusively on the Bekkers contoured vineyard at Clarendon. It’s made mostly with Cabernet Sauvignon (86%) though there’s also an inclusion of Cabernet Franc (14%). It was basket pressed to French oak, 34% new.

This cabernet offers both brightness and depth, its boysenberry and blueberry flavours running into deeper blackcurrant, its mint-like top notes coming infused with delicious smoked cedar. There’s a genuine rumble to the tannin, and an associated super-extension to the finish. This is not a big wine, it’s keen, silken and fresh, but it has excellent power and it will live long. 94 points.
