Chamisal Vineyards San Luis Obispo County Chardonnay 2023
13% alcohol, screwcap, Edna Valley/California.

Chamisal – established 35 years ago – was the first vineyard planted in the Edna Valley, 9km from the Pacific Ocean. This was one of the first chardonnays on my trip to California that really made me sit up a bit straighter. It was also one of the best balanced, and measured, and restrained, the latter in the best of ways. It’s a chalky chardonnay with citrus, pure stonefruits, flint and  meal notes. It feels direct and textural; it’s an essential style of Chardonnay, saline edged. Excellent. 93-94 points.

Chamisal Vineyards is an outstanding producer from what I saw.
