Chateau La Sauvegarde Bordeaux 2022
$40, 13% alcohol, DIAM cork, Bordeaux/France.

Serious Bordeaux at an accessible price. It’s the shape and the structure of this wine that underlines its seriousness, though it has the fruit and flavour to back it up. It tastes of gravel and blackcurrant, mint and lavender, leather and (subtle) tobacco leaves. It’s not plush but there’s an element of velvet to its texture, and there’s a substantial press of dry, firm tannin. The finish is then both sound and well extended. All told this is pretty impressive, especially when served at the dining table. 92 points.
