$70, 13% alcohol, screwcap, Hilltops.

Sangiovese always walks a fine line. You don’t want too much heft or grunt – it’s meant to be refreshing and medium-bodied. But you don’t want it to be too wimpy either, and you certainly don’t want it to come across as overly acidic. This wine is Exhibit A in terms of where and how you want sangiovese to taste and present. It’s cherried, it’s charming, it’s littered with sweet earth, green olive and herb notes, and it flows evenly, refreshingly, and well through the finish. In short, it’s pitch perfect.

93 points.
