Elanto Chardonnay 2024
Elanto Chardonnay 2024
AU$85, 13.5% alcohol, DIAM cork, Mornington Peninsula.
The Elanto vineyard is 10.6 hectares of vines planted at 11,111 vines per hectare at Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula. This means that the Elanto vineyard has an incredible 117, 777 individual vines growing on it. This 2024 Chardonnay is the second release. It’s made by Sandro Mosele. The 2023 Elanto Chardonnay saw almost no malolactic fermentation. This 2024 release however saw almost 85% malo. I tasted this wine from barrel in its infancy and it was incredibly piercing and intense; the subsequent (softening) malolactic influence is an undoubted positive.
This review is a direct quote from my review on The Winefront site:
“This is seriously good. The intensity of fruit is the thing, and the associated length, though there’s a keen textural element and just plenty of wow factor besides. Yellow peach, citrus, nougat, honeycomb and lemon blossom notes charge thoughout. There’s a lot of fruit, a deal of acidity, and a sizeable serve of oak, but all work together and all feel commanding.” 96 points – Campbell Mattinson.
