$300, 14.5% alcohol, screwcap, Mount Edelstone.

The theme of the 2022 Henschke releases is “lifted aromatics”. They are expressive, fragrant wines, cool, fresh, not roasted. This is often the case with Eden Valley wines of course but this is particularly apparent with the 2022s. Exhibit A, Mount Edelstone shiraz 2022. It brings boysenberries to the table, bright, pure, lively. It brings plums, not stewed. It carries sage notes in its front pocket, crushed rock and woodsy spice notes in its hair. Everything comes across as combed, silken, pretty, perfumed and powerful. The danger in calling this wine exquisite is that it might downplay the wine’s presence, though it would help to emphasise its harmony. Think of a body, beautiful and a jacket, tailored, the latter with just enough embroider for you to know without asking that it’s expensive. That’s Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2022. 96 points.
