Scarborough Keepers of the Flame Shiraz Tempranillo 2023
$100, 14.8% alcohol, screwcap, Hunter Valley.

There’s a strength to this wine. It’s medium in body and indeed in terms of fruit intensity but this is a wine with presence; the net effect is significantly more than the sum of its parts. It tastes of red and black cherry, chicory, smoked spices, cedarwood and redcurrant, all of which would be great in itself, except that it’s only as only as you swallow that you realise the full gravity of this wine, and its excellence. Firm tannin, extreme sinewy length, cohesion and a good deal of flourish; it all manifests on the finish of this wine. This is a wonderful release from Scarborough. 96 points.
