Mandala Rock Shiraz 2019

Mattinson review of Mandala Rock Shiraz 2019.

Mandala Rock Shiraz 2019
$80, 13.8% alcohol, screwcap, Yarra Valley.

This cool climate shiraz, at six years of age, is in the prime of its drinking life. It will live and mature over the next several years without a problem, but right now it’s a lovely mix of bold fruit, sparks of spice/potpourri-like characters, and complementary bottle-age complexities. The flavour profile goes like this: cherry-plum fruit flavours, cranberry, woodsy spices and flings of decaying flowers. The tannin here is fine, there’s a meaty/smoky note to the aftertaste, and it all lingers appreciably – and impressively – through the finish. 93 points.
