Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Shiraz Pinot Noir 2024

Mattinson review of Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Shiraz Pinot Noir 2024.

Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Shiraz Pinot Noir 2024
$60, 14% alcohol, screwcap, Hunter Valley.

I could review this in one word: buy. I am a long-time lover of the wines of the Hunter Valley and indeed, especially, of Tyrrell’s and Mount Pleasant. But wow, does this wine have character, and difference, and its own unique take. It has ferrous/blood-like characters, and violet notes, and blueberries, and potpourri, and woodsmoke, and cherries, and mace. It’s fine dining in a bottle. It’s medium in weight at most but there’s enough flavour and texture to hang onto, and the finish is fresh, spicy, mouthwatering and persistent. It has you at hello and you’re still hanging on its every word at goodbye. 94 points.

The above wine is from the 2024 Hunter Valley vintage. The 2023 Hunter Valley vintage is one for the ages. I looked at the 2023 Mount Pleasant red wines here.
Mount Pleasant is a
Mattinson 10-Star winery.

When you pick up a wine book and see thousands of top-scoring wines, it’s hard to know which wine to choose. Mattinson guides you through this maze, giving you an honest view of the best Australian wines, the best wine stories, the best wine producers, the best value wines and simply, the best tasting wines. Importantly, Mattinson will tell you about the top-rated wines and also about the underrated wines. In short, Mattinson knows Australian wines inside and out.

Mattinson has been a photo-journalist since 1987. For the past 25 years he’s been a voice that you can trust when you’re looking for the best wines. He’s the only Australian to have won the Australian Wine Communicator of the Year Award more than once. He’s a past winner of a Louis Roederer International Wine Media Award, and is the author of the award-winning book The Wine Hunter. He’s not afraid to put a score beside a wine. But what he’d rather do, is tell you the wine’s story.
