Punch Lance’s Vineyard Chardonnay 2022
$45, 13% alcohol, screwcap, Yarra Valley

This is a wonderful bottle of chardonnay. It was grown on a tiny plot of vines – just 0.8 of a hectare, to be precise – that was planted in 1984, which is pretty much ancient in Yarra Valley terms. That is, this is a rare wine from an important vineyard. This history wouldn’t matter so much if wasn’t for the quality in the glass, which is excellent. The wine tastes of golden apples and peaches, pears and cedarwood, with bright citrus notes pushing through the finish. Even the acidity in this wine has a keen flavour to it. The palate here is generous and the finish is long; in summary, this is a stylish chardonnay but it’s also a delicious one. 95 points.
