Punch Lance’s Vineyard Close Planted Pinot Noir 2022
$80, 13% alcohol, screwcap, Yarra Valley

The complexity of this young pinot noir is quite something. When this reaches maturity – likely in the next 5-10 years – it promises to be kaleidoscopic. It already shows ample boysenberry, twig, red cherry, Campari-like herb and cedar flavours, through the palate, with blood orange notes riding over the top. It’s an autumnal, foresty, twiggy Pinot Noir but it’s also fruit-filled. Indeed it’s negroni-like, in a more modest alcohol setting, and of course with greater complexity. One extra thing to note with this wine is the cord-like nature of the tannin. It draws at the wine with care, and with certainty. Everything here is in exactly the right place. 94 points.
