Punch Lance’s Vineyard Close Planted Pinot Noir 2023
$80, 13% alcohol, screwcap, Yarra Valley.

This wine paints a complex picture but, also, it brings the silk. It’s a straight-up banger of a Pinot Noir. Undergrowth, black cherry, sap, forest berries and foresty herbs, boysenberries and violets; all these characters get a run, and all walk hand-in-hand. There’s a nutty, sweet-spice aspect to this wine too; it is, in essence and in truth, a beautiful expression of this important vineyard. Tannin through the finish too is perfectly well resolved, which then leads to a long finish. This is the kind of wine that gave Punch’s Close Planted vineyard such a high reputation in the first place. It’s a beauty. 95 points.
