Vazisubani Estate Saperavi Aleksandrouli 2022
Vazisubani Estate Saperavi Aleksandrouli 2022
14% alcohol, cork, Kakheti/Georgia.
I wouldn't like to have to spell this wine out in a spelling bee, under pressure. But it’s a lovely wine to drink.
I’d call this wine grenache-adjacent with its firm tannin and flavours of fresh red berries. Or grenache-adjacent in the modern sense of what grenache can be. There’s a gentle sweetness/raisining to the fruit flavour profile here, but it still exhibits finesse, its spice notes haven’t blown off, and there’s excellent follow through. This is the kind of wine that gets missed because of its lightness but it shouldn’t; it’s a perfect casual red. 91 points.
I don’t know what the percentages are between Saperavi and Aleksandrouli here but whatever they are, they work; the wine feels balanced.
