Stefano Lubiana is arguably most renowned for his pinot noir, followed perhaps for his chardonnay, followed by his sparkling wines. But the growing and making of sparkling wine was what initially attracted Steve and wife Monique to Tasmania in the first place. Needless to say, Stefano Lubiana’s sparkling wines can be unreasonably good.

Ten years on lees, followed by a year under cork prior to release. Low dosage (about 3). 60/40 chardonnay pinot. No barrels, all stainless.

Brine, strawberry, citrus and bread. Linear and long but with character. Some autolytic notes. Dry and textural through the finish. All wild ferment base wine. Super long and super good. Has power and length but this is where finesse and elegance intersect. Wonderful sparkling wine. 96 points.
