L.A.S. Vino Vermouth 2022

Mattinson review of L.A.S. Vino Vermouth 2022.

L.A.S. Vino Vermouth 2022
$100, 16% alcohol, cork, Margaret River.

This is an incredible vermouth. The aromas are off the charts in both volume and in seduction, the flavours then piercing and intense and flamboyant at once. The quality is one thing, the story another: it was made with vermentino grapes, immersed in the Indian Ocean, fermented in oak, sugared and infused with native botanics: saltbush, sea rosemary, dried blood orange and so on. It’s basically straw-copper in colour though it has a slight crimson blush, but the river of honey, sweet orange, peach, rosemary and brine flavours creates one hell of an intoxicating rush. It’s not the kind of vermouth that you’d want to drink every day but as a part of your drinks cabinet arsenal it’s killer. In short, this ocean-soaked sweet Vermouth out of Margaret River is different and salty and bright and unforgettable. Only 200 bottles were made.
