Chatto is a Mattinson 10-Star Winery — Campbell Mattinson's highest honour.

Jim and Daisy Chatto were living and settled in the Hunter Valley. They could easily have stayed, it was all there before them. But they dreamed of Tasmania, and the deep, cold, raw south of it. They (close)-planted a vineyard, at Glaziers Bay in the Huon Valley. They are the epitome, and pinnacle, of the boutique Australian wine dream.

Every wine Jim Chatto touches turns to gold, as his vast and enduring body of work across a range of regions and varieties shows. But his own estate winery in southern Tasmania is where the real magic happens, and with every release it becomes more and more obvious that the Chatto range is one of the best in the land. Try the Chatto Isle Pinot Noir 2021 (Winefront) or indeed the Chatto Isle Pinot Noir 2023 for proof. They are both sensational.
Indeed few wineries, it could be argued, capture the spirit of modern Australian wine as completely as does Chatto. This estate has become synonymous with precision, elegance, and a deeply site-driven approach to Pinot Noir. Chatto is a celebration of this variety but also, in a way, it’s an interrogation of it. Every time you pick up a fresh glass of Chatto pinot, sourced from any of its Tasmanian sites, it’s like staring into unfiltered light. The Chatto wines are pinot noir in the context of the land it calls home. The Chatto wines are shaped by coast and soil and wind. They’re shaped by lutruwita, the cold southern-most island state, surrounded by wild ocean, otherwise known as Tasmania.

Chatto Seven Inch Pinot Noir 2025 (Tasmania): Tannin is both fine-grained and soaked through with complex, smoky, mineral-edged flavour.
Chatto Isle Pinot Noir 2023 (Tasmania): This is a gorgeous wine, its red notes shaded with black, its mineral characters wrapped in silk.
