AU$20, 13.5% alcohol, screwcap, Tasmania.
If you walk into a Dan Murphy’s store and ask for advice on “a good value Pinot Noir”, this is often the recommendation. So I thought that I’d put it to the test. It’s exclusive to Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores.
A bit smoky, a bit sweet-sour, a bit cranberried, notes of orange juice (not so great) and sour undergrowth (much better). Juicy and light, generally in a good way. Tannin has an attractive dryness to it, without intruding, and comes with a subtle smoky/minerally aspect. 90 points-ish. Maybe 91 on its absolute best day. It’s not great but at $20 I’m giving the store attendant(s) a tick.
90 points – Campbell Mattinson.
