$45, 14% alcohol, screwcap, Barossa Valley.

Saltbush and red cherry flavours run through earth, twiggy spice and cola. This grenache is both light and lovely – not to mention characterful. Indeed what’s really impressive, and delicious, about this wine is the way it combines both savouriness and fruitiness. It’s a treat. It responds beautifully to air too; if you open it now, give it a quick double-decant. The intricacy of the tannin here is (yet) another highlight. 93 points.
