$200, 14.8% alcohol, screwcap, Alpine Valleys.

This is a rich red wine with a mountain of structure. It’s from the mountain district of north-east Victoria so that seems fitting. Redcurrant, boysenberry, tobacco, smoked herbs and pepper-like notes create plenty of flavour and along with it, plenty of interest. Stash this away and, in time, it will put on quite a show. It’s a quality wine but it’s also different – in a good way – in its flavours and feel. In magnum, it will live for 15 or 20 years, or even longer. 93+ points.
