Bekkers Clarendon Syrah 2023

Mattinson review of Bekkers Clarendon Syrah 2023.

Bekkers Clarendon Syrah 2023
$300, 14% alcohol, screwcap, McLaren Vale.

Bekkers Clarendon Syrah is a remarkable entrant into the upper reaches of Australian wine. It is, at once, both deeply respectful of its McLaren region and highly attuned to its own idiosyncracy; it tastes pure and rich, as all the best shiraz from this region does, but then it also tastes cool and distinctive, with its nut, aromatic herb and graphite influences written in intricate text throughout. This is as finely structured, and as exquisitely wrought, as you could ever hope a young wine to be. It’s a complete wine, of startling quality. 97 points.
