Burge Family Winemakers Draycott Reserve Shiraz 2023
AU$150, 15% alcohol, cork, Barossa Valley.

Strong flavours of blackberry, licorice, tar, earth, saltbush and coffee purr through the palate. Ripenees is clearly not an issue and nor is texture; there’s velvet to the mouthfeel here. Tannin rumbles through the finish but it does so in tandem with sweet, red-berried fruit flavour. Indeed the tannin here, for all of its assertiveness, is fine-grained and well managed. This wine is hefty and warm but it’s impeccably well composed.
