Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Southern Cross Shiraz 2024
$100, 14% alcohol, screwcap, McLaren Vale.

This is a shiraz with a deep heart of flavour and sleeves of complexing herbs. It’s powered by redcurrant, plum and fresh red cherry flavour, but it then weaves blood orange, thyme, saltbush and both rust and smoke notes throughout. It’s mouthfilling but not overwhelming; its freshness remains intact. As a result, despite the wealth of fruit flavour, it has drinkability writ large. 93 points.
