Haselgrove Col Cross Shiraz 2024
$100, 14.5% alcohol, DIAM cork, McLare Vale.

This is a wine of brute force and significant impact. It’s also emphatically high in quality. It tastes of plums, blackberries, malt, mint and milk chocolate, with gravel and assorted (dried) Italian herb notes about the edges. This wine resembles a long deep river of flavour, cascading over rolls of smooth-skin rocks. It’s grunty and smooth and rich and – ultimately – it feels as though it continues on forever. There’s also significant flex to the tannin here; this wine has long haul written all over it. Each glass feels like a journey. It’s rich and it’s brilliant. 96 points.
