$35, 12.6% alcohol, DIAM cork, Whitlands High Plateau/King Valley.

This is grown on one of – if not the – highest altitude vineyards in Victoria. It’s not cool climate, it’s cold climate. It’s a wine that benefits greatly from the chance to breathe, so a stint in a decanter is advised. From there, it’s an absolute treat of a wine, fine-boned and yet well flavoured, delicate, intricate, persistent and more. It tastes of apples and pears, citrus and oatmeal, lemon blossoms and the merest whisper of honey. But for all of its charms it’s the textural lilt through the finish which really beguiles. This is an understated chardonnay and a beautiful one. 94 points.
