Koonowla Bass Hill Vineyard Red Blend 2022

Bottle of Koonowla Bass Hill Vineyard Red Blend 2022.

Koonowla Bass Hill Vineyard Red Blend 2022
$55, 14% alcohol, screwcap, Clare Valley.

This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, malbec, merlot and petit verdot.

It’s an excellent wine. It takes blackcurrant, raspberry, violet and licorice flavours and infuses them with orange rind, woodsmoke, gravel and mint. It feels rugged, handsome, sturdy and substantial but it also feels svelte, controlled and structured, and there’s good lift to the aromatics as well. This is a top grade red wine, and courtesy of its inherent balance it will work equally well if you get stuck in now – or, alternatively, after a long-ish stint in a cool, dark cellar. 94 points.
