$50, 13% alcohol, screwcap, Tasmania.

Good Tasmanian chardonnay, when it’s young, has a great ability to be both elegant and reticent but also, at the same time, compelling. This makes these wines great to drink whilst young but also to look forward to. This release from Russell & Suitor is an excellent example of this phenomenon. It tastes of citrus and chamomile, white peach and chalk, tonic water, meal and smoked cream. It feels good, tastes good, and is interesting. It will also be an even better drink in another couple of years. For now, it’s clear that we’re in the hands of a quality producer. 93+ points.
