De Bortoli The Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2025
De Bortoli The Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2025
$30, 13.5% alcohol, screwcap, Yarra Valley.
There are no doubt a lot of newer plantings but the oldest Pinot Noir vines on the De Bortoli Yarra Valley property were planted in 1971. This is a remarkable fact. There’s a lot of old vine Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia but there aren’t a lot of 55-year-old Pinot Noir vines.
This is a faithful – and attractive – rendition of the variety with sweet-sour cherry flavours, leaf and spice notes. a positive dryness through the finish and a good mix of both fruitiness and savouriness, with an emphasis on the former. There’s a whisper of cedarwood oak and a general impression of polish, without anything feeling overdone. Good drinking to be had here. 91 points.
