12.5% alcohol, screwcap, Tasmania.

Peter Dredge (aka Dr. Edge) made two ‘Tasmania’ pinot noirs from the 2023 vintage. They’re both essentially the same wine, made with grapes from the Derwent and Tamar valleys. One was matured in barrique/oak, as per usual, the other was matured in concrete. They make for a fascinating duo – indeed tasting these two wines side-by-side will and does teach you a great deal about wine. But then, almost everything Peter Dredge does is fascinating.

This (concrete matured wine) is exquisite. I tasted this among many other wines and from the first sip I wanted to stop everything and just simply drink this. It’s a wine of tension, flesh, length, spice, florals and a linger of pure fruit through the finish that’s both all charm and all engrossing. This is a beautiful red wine; fresh, alive, myriad and enduring. 95 points.
